Yesterday, the BC government announced full university status for Nanaimo's Malaspina University-College. Pending amendments to the BC Universities Act, the new "Vancouver Island University" will focus on the region's training needs and its reputation for specializations such as First Nation studies, Coastal Resource Management, and trades and applied technology.
