As we noted in late 2006, the trend on US campuses is toward "gender-blind" dorm room assignments. At least two dozen American PSE institutions are allowing students to room with members of the opposite sex. Schools and students say the demand is mostly from heterosexual students who want to live with close friends of the opposite sex. Some gay students who feel more comfortable sharing accommodation with opposite-sex students are also taking advantage of this rooming option. No word on co-ed Canadian dorms -- let us know by leaving a comment on this story!  Maclean's OnCampus
