On Wednesday, Research in Motion co-founder Mike Lazaridis donated $50 million to the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, in Waterloo Ontario. The funds follow a $100-million contribution Lazaridis made to the theoretical physics centre in 2000. Since then the institute had garnered an international reputation for its innovative research in cosmology, quantum physics, particle physics and superstring theory. The donation will be used to attract more researchers, as well to develop outreach programs with high schools and universities encouraging students to study physics.
