In order to start eliminating its $3.2-million operating deficit, Canadore College, in North Bay Ontario, has closed its daycare program, which has consistently lost tens of thousands of dollars a year mostly because of Ontario funding rules. The centre was projected to lose $20,000 in the upcoming academic year. Canadore's president attributes most of the deficit to the cost of establishing new programs and operating essential but less attractive programs.
