Facebook Ups Group Messaging Limits

Just a quick note/addendum to my post on Facebook Pages and Groups… The main reason that I argue so strongly for Groups when community is your goal is that ability to broadcast personal messages in the inboxes of all your group members. (Spellcheck tells me that inboxes is not a word, and apparently neither is Spellcheck). The downside to success used to be that once your group amassed more than 1,200 members, the messaging feature cut off.

But that is the past! Sometime in the last few weeks, Facebook upped the message cap at 5,000. I have yet to see many higher ed Facebook Groups cross this mark, so this should put us all back on track with group messaging campaigns. I noticed this yesterday during research for a student engagement project, and also came across this post on Inside Facebook earlier today (fantastic blog if you work with Facebook, or even care about Facebook. They are always on top of things before anyone else.)
