If your school has a Facebook page, you can use that page as your SkoolPool profile. There is no need to set up or maintain both. By linking your Facebook page to the SkoolPool network, you are now linked to our community of applicants, as well as Facebook at large and you only have one profile to take care of instead of two.

What's the difference between SkoolPool and Facebook?

SkoolPool profiles are built specifically to meet the needs of institutions on Facebook. Because of our focus on the higher education sector, we have a clear understanding of the messaging and functionality that schools are looking for online and we built SkoolPool's profiles with this in mind. A SkoolPool profile includes logo, tagline, description/messaging, unlimited phone/email contacts (i.e. Admissions, Financial Aid), "wall," "Add this school," and "Friends at this school." Premium SkoolPool profiles include more advanced features such as support for student blogs, news releases, important dates/deadlines, reviews, and moderation/content control as well as activity notification and "admissions analytics."

A free Facebook Page includes the standard profile features such as display picture, address & phone number, about, wall, etc. It does not have any of the higher ed marketing features that the free SkoolPool package includes (tagline, messaging, email contacts, "friends at this school") and also is not linked to the SkoolPool applicant community that is growing every day (We passed 10,000 installs back in Spring 2008). SkoolPool's free profiles are only visible to this community 10,000 +.

To break it down: SkoolPool's free profiles have superior functionality but have shorter reach (10,000+). Facebook's free profiles have wider reach but less functionality.
