Algoma now officially an independent university

News Date: Sep 8, 2008
Last Thursday, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty was present at Algoma University, based in Sault Ste. Marie, to welcome its new degree-granting, independent university status. In May, the province introduced legislation to award independence to Algoma, which has been affiliated with Laurentian University for 40 years. Ontario is contributing $2.5 million to help Algoma make the switch. The school will launch an advertising campaign in the GTA and a new website within a few weeks. Ontario News Release | Sault Star
