McGill bars independent politician from campus

According to the McGill Daily, a student newspaper, an independent candidate in Montreal has been feuding with McGill University administration over the right to campaign on campus. Campus security escorted David Sommers Rovins off the premises twice in recent weeks for trying to speak to students during classes, and he also tried to access confidential student class schedules. McGill claims Rovins was disruptive and violated protocol by not notifying administration or receiving permission before entering campus. Rovins says he has a legal right to campaign on campus. "Trophy wife" hunter banned from UNH takes legal action

A registered sex offender who was banned from the University of New Hampshire for a year after trying to recruit a "trophy wife" has taken legal action against the university. Bert Allen III had posted a flyer at the school's library looking for a candidate with a good smile, passport, and an open mind. After UNH issued the ban, Allen served the school with notice seeking a restraining order, citing attacks and threats made by campus police. While the flyer's content was not illegal, campus police say it was offensive and against school policy. CBC | WMUR

Memorial University students have become gold medal champions by winning this year's Students in Free Enterprise World Cup. In the competition, the SIFE Memorial team highlighted 6 of their most successful projects, and are credited with giving "the best presentation of the competition in the final round. It was not only a flawless presentation, but they answered every question with confidence and poise." Last Wednesday, the Brenda Strafford Foundation announced a $1.1-million investment over 5 years for the creation of the Brenda Strafford Centre for Excellence in Gerontological Nursing at the University of Calgary's nursing faculty. The donation is the largest the faculty has ever received. The centre will provide students and instructors access to residents in the long-term care homes run by the foundation, create more student placements, and link care staff with an academic setting. uCalgary News Release | CBC
